One of the biggest obstacles to starting and sticking with a regular meditation practice is actually getting your butt on a meditation cushion! Really. Everything and anything will come to mind to keep you from sitting down to practice. Dishes. TV shows. Phone calls. Email. Facebook. Scrubbing the bath tub with a toothbrush. Why do so many of us find it hard to make the time to meditate? One reason may be that it can be difficult to sit quietly with our own minds for any length of time. There’s a lot of stuff rattling around in there. But, as Buddhist monk Pema Chodron reminds us, that stuff, even the scary, stinky, unpleasant stuff is the perfect place to start.
